I like Devian.

Something very cool happened recently involving Last Blood, but I probably shouldn’t mention it yet, even though I love giving spoilers.  I’ll tell you in a couple weeks.

Oh, do I get the first comment?

I love the ending for this page. Seems kind of like where you’d end a chapter, or something. The perspective is nice (yeah, I see the fan service, Owen, perv)…

“What the hell are you?!” For some reason I feel like pulling a quote out of 300.

  2. Bobby Crosby Says:

Mac also has a nice view.

  3. Jim Says:

Hmmm, looking forward to hearing that that ‘something very cool’ is!

  4. Bobby Crosby Says:

Nothing mind blowing, but it’s pretty awesome.

  5. Jeff Says:

Hmmm… Didja get picked up by paramount? Didja? Didja?

  6. MB Says:

Great page πŸ™‚ I love the third panel. Awesome.

  7. Lydia Says:

“Mac also has a nice view.”

Was hoping Mac’d be too preoccupied with their dire situation to be staring up her skirt.

  8. Dean Says:

It would take a more dire situation for him -not- to look up her skirt. Like an atom bomb the direction she’s flying, or a bird scratching out his eyes.

  9. Chris Says:

“Nothing mind blowing, but itÒ€ℒs pretty awesome. ”
Got all the cast lined up for the movie?

    “Probably went into a cellar”
    Or digging a tunnel! Suspicious!

Devian did not look like she was carrying extra ammo clips on her, they might have a problem soon. It’s also interesting that while being surrounded by a horde or zombies trying to kill him and just being saved by a flying woman, Mac is focusing on the person that is not life threatening. Its kinda funny though it makes sense since she’s probably most likely the only one who can talk to him at the moment.

  10. Brellchild Says:

They can smell blood at that range but not burnt gunpowder. Interesting.

Actually, I’m suprised he didn’t smell that bit of vampire blood when she got shot a while back. Of course he might be keeping quiet because he doesn’t want to worry her.

Ten miles out shouldn’t be a problem because in that kind of area that is basically the next town, but now my paranoia makes me wonder if TFZ can mask the scent of groups of zombies somehow. It might mean that TFZ is controlling them directly now.

  11. Nara Says:

yay! Devian!!!!!! Happy birthday to meeeeeee!!! Ok, this is the first time Ive been confused about something in the page so please forgive me for asking, but who is Math referring to in the first panel (that went underground) the humans nearby or zombies further out?
Im sure Mac can die a happy man now that he has seen “The Glory” (that are Devians knickers hahaha). I am happy! yay! Devian!

  12. Mewt Says:

Whoo. Between Val and Dev, you’ve definately got all the male viewers of this comic well entertained. Hot jap + Hot Redhead = … Lots of tissues?

  13. steve Says:

As for Mac, if I thought I was about to die, I’d want to go out happily distracted.

  14. John Says:

Gee thanks Bobby. Way to go and ruin my conspiracy theory of Mac being Addison Payne in disguise. But it leaves me wondering at Mac’s seeming super-human abilities. I mean, how else could he single-handedly survive survive the massing zombie attacks thrown at him in his visit to the city. (Please note the attacks I am discussing occur on pages 26, 34 and 42, before Devian shows up and saves his butt.)

Then again, its also likely that I still havent had enough coffee yet today.

  15. Bobby Crosby Says:

Nara: Darn, you’re the second person who wasn’t sure. I thought it was obvious that it had to be zombies. Whenever they’ve talked about “groups” before, it’s always been zombies (I think), but either way, who else could it be? We already know as a fact that all the humans are in that school, other than Mac, who is a big guy, but not a group by himself. So then it could only be zombies or vampires, but Mac’s clearly talking about them as if they’re a threat, so it has to be zombies.

Brellchild: Math only has a good nose for blood, and he definitely knows that Devian is with Mac and that they’re surrounded by tons of zombies.

John: No super human abilities needed. We haven’t seen exactly how many zombies he’s been facing, but these are mostly just the slow type who have already eaten so many humans that they barely even want more at this point, although they won’t turn it down when they see Mac walk by looking for supplies. It’s only when TFZ is controlling them that the zombies become much more dangerous and fast.

  16. John Says:

    Right then, coffee is brewing.

  17. Courtney Says:

Um, hey, I just realized, where’d Mac get that gun? He shot Devian with it, too, but when he left the others, he said he didn’t want one, cause he’s got that axe.

  18. Courtney Says:

Oh, he probably just got it in the town. I assumed he didn’t want a gun, but I guess he just didn’t want to take valuable fire power from the others at the school.

  19. Bobby Crosby Says:

Before leaving they also talked about how he was going to get guns and ammo, getting things for Murdo. That was one of his stops. Murdo ran out of ammo during that first invasion that we saw just before the vampires showed up.

  20. kieran Says:

I almost feel bad for matheson, for when mac returns the proverbial shit will hit the fan…
and devian is great in the last panel…
    kieran

  21. Brellchild Says:

Can’t wait to see Mac’s reaction to his savior being a vampire.

As to the occasional comments about vampires always looking fit and usually hot. There’s probably a very simple reason for this – if you are designed to be living on blood and/or supernatural energy of some sort why do you really need body fat? Very low body fat means you look either fit or starved, and since all the vampires so far seem to work out regularly they end up looking pretty darn good.

It’s also easier to get closer to your food if you look good, but I doubt they want to point that out to their new human friends at the moment. Not needing body fat sounds much less threatening.

  22. Violinagin Says:

Oh! The closest group are ‘zombies!’ That makes sense now. I was thinking humans as well and that didn’t make sense at all. Since there is only one other group…Glad I read the comments before I posted my question. πŸ˜› That helps.

  23. Lydia Says:

Hey, Mewt, I think it’s already been mentioned in several comments from Bobby that Devian is Chinese.

  24. Gary Says:

Just wanted to say I am enjoying the comic and like that your active amongst the community of readers. Also, to all the people who are complaining about how easily TFZ apparently took out humanity- get over it. Just about any spectacular fiction requires suspension of disbelief. This is no different.

BUT… because you like to explain things I was wondering how you would explain the zombies getting through to all the fortified nuclear proof bunkers on this planet. Alot of the military bunkers are staffed, are very secure and have extensive rations. How did TFZ break through? Did he sneak a zombie into each of the hundreds of bunkers and then surreptitiously convert the staff inside avoiding the guards? Although that explanation is a bit of a stretch so I’m curious as to what it would be.

  25. Bobby Crosby Says:

Gary: Very simple, any way they want, a billion ways. Once they’ve killed almost everyone, after the first couple weeks, when there’s less than 50,000 or so humans left alive, they start just picking ’em all off with the First Zombie flying around in a plane with tons of other zombies with parachutes and tons of machinery and weapons, and he smells them out and drops them down with anything they could need to open any door and get anywhere. And if they don’t have what they need, they get it. They’re also EXTREMELY good at tunneling to get to people anywhere and everywhere, as you’ll see later.

  26. Redrover Says:

Love how you see through Math’s act when he is concerned, but as soon as the topic of Mac comes up his false smile returns. πŸ˜€

    Freakin’ great.

  27. Vo Says:

Eh, Chinese = Japanese for sake of hotness…. I know they aren’t the same.

Devian’s extra ammo clips? Who knows what she has under that skirt. Maybe she really has a penis and that’s why Mac said “What the hell are you?” I know is a hot looking flying chinese vampire chick with guns saved me and then as I was running after her I looked up her skirt and she was a he, I would react similarly.

  28. Nero Says:

Love Math’s face in panel 4. Sure, it might be a fake smile… but it’s a CUTE fake smile.

*leaves room to have fangirl moment*

  29. Tegu Says:

THIS IS THE BEST PAGE SO FAR!

  30. Rich Says:

Ive just realized who the Principal reminds me of; Robert Kokol, the professor in “Waterboy”. (I think its Robert Kokol anyways, imdb isn’t quite accurate on saying who he is).
