Woah. Didn’t see that one coming. Awesome, as always. Did Caitlyn just happen to have a stake handy?
October 18th, 2007 at 4:39 am
Start of Page 86 will help to explain that. She’s been very scared of this kind of torture since she first became a vampire and she’s always ready to off herself. At this time all vampires who are at all considering suicide would be ready with a stake, though, so no explanation is really needed, but hers was a more special case.

Poor Caitlyn!
Great comic, yet again!
October 18th, 2007 at 6:12 am
Isn’t that the chick who looked like Cecania?? First time poster, long time reader… I just have to say I love your stuff and I’d love to see where the story eventually goes!
October 18th, 2007 at 6:15 am
“Caitlyn”…yes…”Caitlyn” *shifty eyes*
Interesting twist, though pretty realistic I guess.
Aww, looking back you can see her looking anguished in the background. Poor thing. 🙁
I like this page a lot “It’s like that, but for 65 years” is a good line. Hmm.
October 18th, 2007 at 6:21 am
Just wow, re-read the entire thing again, and I have to say it dosen’t lose its power the second time around. This is deffinately one of the best things I’ve ever read.
October 18th, 2007 at 7:18 am
Another one bites the dust.
October 18th, 2007 at 7:33 am
….This page makes me uncomfortable since the girl who just offed herself and I share the same first name….’cept mine is spelled slightly different.
*depressed look* Great way to start off my day, but nice page. Love to the mohawk vampire.

So her hand is upside-down in the last panel. I’m not saying its physically impossible, but try holding a pen to your chest the way she is. Its not easy. Seems much more probable that she would have stabbed herself with her palm down towards her feet.
October 18th, 2007 at 9:09 am
Oh. Poor Caitlyn… I really like her expressions, going from surprise, to worry, to terror. Love the way Owen draws faces. Nice page today. Lots of love from Europe!
October 18th, 2007 at 9:15 am
“Always ready to off herself.”
Drinking tea and splurting it all over a public computer screen is not good for my rep. Anywho, Payne is awesome.
October 18th, 2007 at 10:35 am
That’s funny, when you first see her (after the plane crashes), she looks ready to kick some ass.
Unless I’m mistaken and that was another girl.

HAH that’s fucking awesome. Oh, and the girl who raised her hand? Amusing expression.. totally goes with the dialogue.
“EXCUSE me?”
Also, the way Payne is tilted in that panel, I think, gives it a more comedic effect as well. I can’t quite explain it, but it just seems to be a canon of comic/illustration or something.
Suicide is funny. Yeah, I said it. Bet Payne’s shaking his head and thinking, “This lousy group is our last stand? We’re so fucked.”
October 18th, 2007 at 12:08 pm
How does one go about killing OOMFZ? (one of many first zombies)
he has zombie and vampire powers so is he harder to kill or the opposite?
October 18th, 2007 at 1:14 pm
“So her hand is upside-down in the last panel. I’m not saying its physically impossible, but try holding a pen to your chest the way she is. Its not easy. Seems much more probable that she would have stabbed herself with her palm down towards her feet.”
That’s all backwards. Your way is upside down and weird. Both are very possible to do, but the easier, more normal way is the one used in the comic.
Aqua: You’ll find out later.
October 18th, 2007 at 1:14 pm
“It’s like that but for sixty-five years.”
Geez, even I’d wanna run a stake through my heart. It kinda sounds like he doesn’t have too much of a plan aside from “We’re fucked,” but then again the next page could be around the lines of “However if Caitlyn had waited for me to finish explaining…” type of thing : )
October 18th, 2007 at 1:26 pm
Awesome, like usual.
“Also, the way Payne is tilted in that panel, I think, gives it a more comedic effect as well.” I went back up and looked and I couldn’t help but laugh.
It’s like he italicized -himself- for effect. XD

“Also, the way Payne is tilted in that panel, I think, gives it a more comedic effect as well.â€
You have to remimber that their is depth. He is leaning inward to adress the speaker face to face.
October 18th, 2007 at 3:01 pm
Girl with her hand up in third panel– Pulse Parks?
October 18th, 2007 at 3:13 pm
hey it does look liek pulse!
crossover?

Snap.
Yeah the torture is painful but I would attempt to kill as many as I can before they kill me. Or you know. Maybe do a suicide bomb as a last resort.
October 18th, 2007 at 4:08 pm
“Yeah the torture is painful but I would attempt to kill as many as I can before they kill me.”
They’re not trying to kill you — they’re trying to lock you up in chains so you’ll endure decades of unimaginable torture. And they don’t have any bombs (TFZ does, though). When you get out amongst a massive group of tightly packed zombies, it’s hard to start slashing away and also notice when the zombies with chains are about to pile on top of you and tie you up. Also, it’s pointless — too many zombies, vampires can’t save the humans from them.
October 18th, 2007 at 4:18 pm
Wow, that’s a bleak scenario. You stay away from the fighting and you endure unimaginable torture or you get into the fighting and you endure years of unimaginable torture. I’d be tempted to kill myself too.
October 18th, 2007 at 5:26 pm
“You have to remimber that their is depth. He is leaning inward to adress the speaker face to face.”
Vib, he’s leaning outward.. away from the girl he’s addressing.
October 18th, 2007 at 5:50 pm
I dont want to sound negative or anything but this is my least favorite page so far. i cant pinpoint the reason but i dont really like the way the people are leaning every which way in each pannel.
its still amazing though. i like how you can see the reflection of math in pain’s goggles (or whatever they are.)
October 18th, 2007 at 6:37 pm
w00t!
This comic gets more freakin’ awesome and interesting everytime I read it. It’s one of a kind. Mr. Crosby, great writing. Owen, amazing art.
Keep up the great work.
October 18th, 2007 at 8:57 pm
Would be cool for Addison to have a capsule that the vampires could put in there mouth to break when they got chained up that would turn that back into humans (because that is apparently what is in the case). Similar to a cyanide capsule or something of the sort. But it probably doesnt work like that ;).
Also addison payne is got some crazy mad lean going on in that third panel.
October 18th, 2007 at 9:01 pm
Caitlyn with a Y?! >:O! No traditional Irish spelling with an I?! WHAT. I can understand why the stabbing was done. ….okay, the comic is SO awesome, that I suppose a small misspelling can be accepted. 😛 Amazing work, to both artist and writer!
October 18th, 2007 at 9:36 pm
“Vib, he’s leaning outward.. away from the girl he’s addressing. ”
Not from the way I am looking at it… From my point of view it seems to me that Math is at the opposite side of a room and the prissy vampire girl is onj the other. with a small crowd between the two payne is leaning in her direction… Or I could be reading into it a bit much… meh.
October 18th, 2007 at 9:39 pm
very sad…poor lass….
October 18th, 2007 at 10:29 pm
The hand thing… while it is unreasonable for someone to stab themselves with the knuckles facing the legs and the palm facing upwards…. it is only true if they use ONE hand to do it… If you grab the implement with both hands then it will be the other way around, with the knuckles towards the feet and the palm facing the face. (try making a stabbing motion towards your chest with one hand cupping the other).
So most likely she stabbed herself with both hands and while one cramped on the stake, the other fell off to her side (as it was cupping the other hand, not the stake)… And two hands give her more force for penetration…
That or most likely the author didn’t try to stab himself with an imaginary stake to figure out the way his hand should face.
October 18th, 2007 at 10:31 pm
Addendum… OR she could have stabbed herself after fulling extending her arm to gain momentum… If you begin about a foot off straight ahead from your chest you will be holding it in the opposite manner then she does… but if you full extend your arm with a bit of an upwards angle then you will hold the stake the way she is.
October 18th, 2007 at 10:32 pm
FULLY extending not fulling… don’t know how I ended up saying fulling.
October 18th, 2007 at 10:38 pm
is she gonna turn into ash?
October 18th, 2007 at 10:47 pm
also keep in mind guys she is a vampire, possibly making it much easier to stab herself, even in ways we couldnt.
October 18th, 2007 at 11:21 pm
About the hands thing; it wouldn’t really matter all that much which way her hands where facing. If she was trying to get it done quickly, before anyone could stop her, then i bet she wouldnt stop to adjust her grip
October 19th, 2007 at 12:02 am
The hands thing is the most pointless thing I’ve ever fucking heard. Obviously BOTH ways are perfectly possible, but in my opinion, and this seems pretty obvious, the easiest, most powerful way is the one shown in the damn comic. No more talk about it.
October 19th, 2007 at 12:09 am
Evidently we need passports to stab ourselves in the chest.
October 19th, 2007 at 12:42 am
Yeah, enough talk about stake holding, I want to hear more about Addison’s lean in panel 3! 😉
October 19th, 2007 at 12:45 am
LOL.
October 19th, 2007 at 1:25 am
ahh.. come on… I think the whole tradegy about her doing it in the first place is much more boring than how her hands are turning now that she did it.. that makes perfect sense.. muahah lol narf… just joking ( vampires are naturally stronger than a normal human being btw aint they? hint hint ))
Anyways I figure she dont even die.. all the “stake through the heart” thingy.. it seems to me she missed… hyr hyr.. never tried before so ofc I cant be sure..
October 19th, 2007 at 5:05 am
Sorry Bobby, but the temptation to post that was too great 😉
October 19th, 2007 at 5:19 am
even the walking dead have their fears to take the ultimate escape clause…
October 19th, 2007 at 9:42 pm
come now, that was constructive criticism… he was trying to point out that there was an error in placement of body parts. A very common and easy to make error for a comic. I know I would always welcome such corrections to anything I make…
And then I was explaining how it could work either way… no need to get aggressive about it.
October 19th, 2007 at 9:45 pm
LOL at constructive criticism — it’s only constructive when it’s CORRECT. Instead he said something totally FALSE as if it was a FACT and as if we somehow made a big mistake. So shut the fuck up, moron. Banned obviously, jeez. Fucking idiots.
“So her hand is upside-down in the last panel.”
I’m getting really tired of people trying to tell me that bullshit statements like that are somehow “constructive criticism.” I bet you’d say the people talking about passports on the latest “Marry Me” page are also giving constructive criticism.

There is a shortage of perfect breasts in this world, and that vampire had to ruin the second-t-last pair.
