Murdo should have had someone else back up Grady, I know it wouldn’t look good for the reason to be leaving his post is to go have sex(well, some people would think that its a perfectly acceptable reason) but with millions of zombies at your door, you should have at least two people on watch so things like that doesn’t happen.
I wonder if this page would be more dramatic with no woofing from the dog?
Chris: Math and Val can smell zombies coming (Math more so than Val) and the last they heard is that the closest zombies are 10 miles out and only a small group, so they’re not too concerned about it. They think Math is taking care of it. Also, Murdo couldn’t have helped on this in any way, and the fact that he’s not on the roof will actually SAVE LIVES. I won’t say too much more because it gives away spoilers, but anyway, you’ll see, keep reading. Also, the bark is fairly important and makes it more dramatic, I think. You’ll have to read the next several pages to understand more (well, the next 10 or so, really).
Well, for me it doesn’t look like Mudo’s really sleeping. If you look at Val’s position… she’s on top, right?. *fg* Btw if I were Murdo, i wouldn’t sleep next to Lady “I do NOT cuddle”.
I really kan imagine these scenes in the movie. Great!
I really don’t see how it could be the nearest group of zombies. Given the hair trigger the vampires *were* on, they would have picked up on them moving closer. And even if they are the best tunnelers in the world zombies are still going to need most of a day to dig ten miles.
I think it’s either Mac/ Devian or TFZ. More likely Devian and (if he survived) Mac returning. TFZ wouldn’t be stupid enough to get that close to vampires when he doesn’t need to.
And if Murdo was stupid enough to leave his post without sending a replacement (or several) to the roof he ain’t no Marine.
Question to the author if I may: Did you ever say how long TFZ had been a vampire before he got put in that coffin?
I’m starting to wonder if he was a ‘newborn’ who was going through the transition to vampire but his fellow crewmembers (assuming he was on a ship when it happened) thought he was dead and thus buried him at sea.
“Well, for me it doesn’t look like Mudo’s really sleeping.”
He’s definitely not sleeping. You are correct. Yes, Val on top.
“And if Murdo was stupid enough to leave his post without sending a replacement (or several) to the roof he ain’t no Marine.”
In Panel 3 you can see Grady on the roof, and it’s pretty much just Murdo and Grady who previously did any looking out. Others scared wimps. Either way, though, they now have MATH, so Murdo thinks they’re perfectly fine. Much more safe than they were 24 hours ago at least. And he’s not gonna give up on this opportunity. And they all still think that they’re all probably gonna die soon anyway no matter what, keep in mind.
“And even if they are the best tunnelers in the world zombies are still going to need most of a day to dig ten miles.”
They don’t need to dig anything. I thought we already went over how there are underground passageways of some sort, and several people explained how that’s extremely possible, but it doesn’t matter what’s “normal” — there’s a secret way that I previously hinted that TFZ helped in building, I thought. Let’s not have any more questions about that, though — too many spoilers already.
“I think it’s either Mac/ Devian or TFZ.”
Math said he smelled a small group. Sounds like more than two to me.
“Did you ever say how long TFZ had been a vampire before he got put in that coffin?”
He allowed himself to be put in the coffin (that’s what he wanted) and I never said, no. Less than a year.
How come the vampires haven’t fed yet? They’re in a situation akin to a man who’s had to live on rations for the last few months suddenly finding himself in the middle of an all you can eat buffet with Prime Beef sirloin as the main course! It must be driving them crazy! I mean, ok, Math seems pretty level-headed, so he can probably hold out a while more, but i totally expected Val to have taken a bite out of Murdo by now. God knows she’s probably taken a fair amount of ‘other’ bodily fluids out of him already…
Sorry, couldn’t help myself there 😀 Anyway, i’m looking forward to what’s about to happen. Hope we’ll get to see lots more vampire against zombie action! ^_^
nader: It’s been answered before several times in the comments, but no problem. For one, keep in mind that Math and Val just arrived about 15 hours ago at the school. For two, Math and Val just came from a similar group of humans after that mission failed and all the humans died, and when it looked totally lost and the zombies were breaking through the defenses, Math and Val fed very heavily on some of those humans, even taking some of their blood with them, like in that bottle of “red gatorade” that Math was drinking earlier. That was just a couple days ago, so they’re not too thirsty yet at all. The movie is about needing the humans alive for FOREVER so they can get a continual supply of blood. It’s not about them needing blood right now, because they don’t.
I think the ‘woof’ definitely is important there. Otherwise I would think its just some dog hanging around, and not that he’s sensing something. Can dogs become zombified?
April looks like shes definitely liking Math in bed with her too
Doesn’t need a beating heart, no. What he needs is to block out the horrible smell of the zombies, and being so close to the good strong smell of April’s blood, right over her heart where it’s all pumping out, is enough to block out the zombies so he can sleep. (Unfortunately that will lead to several deaths.)
Jimmy just got his neck ripped open be zombies and the rose from the dead and is leading them back here to crush our skulls and drink our brain through our ears with crazy straws?
Well i picked up firsr blood from a friend on free comic book day and loved it, durring 2nd block the though struk me to look it up online due to my avid imagination not letting me sleep trying to put together the rest of the story on my own, lol it didnt look as good as this is so far though 🙂
Cant wait till the next post!
I think out of everyone here, Shannboy is the only one who even went near that particular line of thought. The rest of us merely assumed Murdo was getting lucky.
well i think its ok for murdo to have left his post…

I can’t find any copies of the Last Blood Free Comic. Of the thirteen stores in my area, not one of them got enough copies to last through the first 6 hours. I had to go buy one on eBay. So sad…….
I hate to sound like the party pooper I usually am on here, but did anyone else think that the joke with the “Woof” kind of fell flat, this whole scene just felt kind of blah to me.

Joke? LOL, what the heck are you talking about? How is that a “joke”? The dog is barking because he’s looking at TONS OF ZOMBIES.

yes, folks need to get a grip and not nit-pick. If you want to critique it feel free to do your own hard work and write and illustrate your own comic 🙂 I think the comic is very good and I don’t get confused or irritated about the scenes. They are well done. What’s so hard to understand about the dog “woofing”? Write your own damn comic however you like with your own scenes the way you like it.

gah, bobby! That just gives even more questions! Now even -I- can’t wait for TFZ to make his appearance and tell us what’s REALLY going on. >.

Unrelated to this though, i do have a question.
How come the vampires haven’t fed yet? They’re in a situation akin to a man who’s had to live on rations for the last few months suddenly finding himself in the middle of an all you can eat buffet with Prime Beef sirloin as the main course! This page has a kind of subtle, amusing humor about it in the radically different sleeping people in each panel, punctuated by the “Woof!” at the end.
May 10th, 2007 at 11:30 am
Looks to me like Matheson needs the sound of a beating heart to sleep, perhaps. Just a theory. Any clarification?
May 10th, 2007 at 12:29 pm

It’s very suspenseful. I almost imagine the next page being a group of zombies swarming the school. Causing general mayhem and the like.

Meh. A lot of people are getting very nit picky. I’d be a little insulted if I was a writer/artist for this strip.
I think a lot of people should really just read and refrain from making remarks about minor character movements and the like.
But maybe I’m just irritable right now.

Great comic man, looking forward for when it appears in Australia.

The rifle shown in the third panel is actually an Air Arms S200T, a .177 caliber air rifle. It is also shown at about half size.
